Portsmouth Abbey School is a coeducational Catholic boarding and day school for students in grades 9 through 12. Founded in 1926 by the English Benedictine Congregation, the School is located on a 525-acre campus along Rhode Island's Narragansett Bay, less than 30 minutes south of Providence and 20 minutes from Newport. Portsmouth Abbey combines a classical education in the Catholic intellectual tradition with Benedictine values. Job summary:

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing and Visual Design Specialist will be responsible for supporting the development and execution of Portsmouth Abbey School's overall comprehensive marketing plan and expanding the presence of the institution as a leader in the independent school sector. The Marketing and Visual Design Specialist will have a particular focus on increasing Portsmouth Abbey School's digital presence and developing innovative outreach strategies to increase awareness of the institution as a premier, coeducational, Catholic, boarding school.

The Marketing and Visual Design Specialist is a multi-functional role with work split between digital marketing, visual design, copy-writing, photography, videography and editing. The ideal candidate will possess both a creative flair and a strong ability to translate requirements into design, and will be adept at balancing situations where the marketing and creative directions are clearly defined, as well as situations with more room for creative interpretation and autonomy.

The Marketing and Visual Design Specialist will also conceptualize and create designs, concepts and layouts in order to produce digital, video and photographic content for the school website, as well as print, digital and social media channels to support marketing, advertising, public, and community relations programs that build and maintain Portsmouth Abbey School's local, regional and national presence.

This position will also be responsible for creating and updating an advanced social media strategy that includes developing production schedules and coordinating content along with several departments across the institution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the design and production of internal and external communications tools including the school's website, social media accounts, advertising, magazine and annual report.
Ensure designs and content meet organizational standards and brand expectations, express ideas accurately, and represent the Portsmouth Abbey community appropriately.
Draft and post daily social media posts for all brand channels, customizing each piece of content for its intended channel (this includes adjusting photos/videos/graphics and editing copy and URLs), as well as manage and monitor social media channels, with the goal of increasing followers and engagement to support strategic goals and initiatives.
Use trend intelligence, Google analytics, and other research tools to optimize the relevance, success and steady improvement of diverse digital activities and related campaigns.
Monitor trending hashtags and topics to integrate into the Portsmouth Abbey brand.
Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize with multiple teams on a wide range of materials that may include departmental or school-affiliated web pages, presentations, programming collateral, signage, newsletters, and marketing content.
Develop and create graphics for wide variety of print and online publications, illustrations, collateral materials, website, video and social media channels.
Provide guidance and support to departments and affiliated entities to assist in the development of digital strategies that enhance their visibility and that of Portsmouth Abbey School.
Shoot digital photos and/or video at school and community events to illustrate stories for social media platforms, collateral materials, marketing and advertising.
Coordinate production schedules to ensure projects and assignments are delivered in a timely manner.
Manage the design and uploading process of project materials, understanding best practices for using a content management system.
Assist in updating and maintaining the internal management system for designs, photography, video and other assets.
Prepare reports on the activities, plans and outcomes for assigned marketing initiatives as directed by the Marketing Director.
Perform other duties as required.

Required Knowledge and Skills

The ideal candidate will have working/advanced knowledge of digital marketing and advertising principles, social media management, graphic design, copy-writing and project management. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Supports the values and institutional goals as defined in the Portsmouth Abbey School Strategic Plan and is commitment to the mission of the school.
Demonstrated relevant experience producing multimedia content.
Familiarity with social media channels, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Familiarity with the Adobe creative suite including design programs, such as Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, as well as Premiere Pro and After Effects.
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, multitask, organize and prioritize while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
Ability to translate strategic direction into high-quality design within an established brand identity and demonstrate excellent attention to detail.
Ability to develop concepts by hand or with software, and execute original content determining ideal usage of color, text, font style, imagery, and layout
Proficiency with use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the Internet.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to use interpersonal skills to make sound judgments regarding how duties and responsibilities are completed between coworkers, the supervisory chain, faculty, staff, students, and other customers.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from constituents, agencies, or members of the community.
Work with vendors/printers to obtain quotes, execute jobs, and resolve problems and disputes.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in graphic design, communications, marketing or related field required, plus five years progressive work experience in graphic design; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3-5 years' experience with design software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and

proven experience with graphic design for print and digital, with a strong portfolio of work.

Demonstrated experience in content and video production for social media across multiple social media platforms.
Proven experience implementing, maintaining, and tracking SEO strategies including keyword and market research and Google Analytics
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar and punctuation, and basic arithmetic.
Error free and enticing copywriting skills, with an understanding of sales and marketing tactics and strategies. Knowledge of AP style a plus.
Mac and PC proficient, HTML/WordPress experience a plus.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an office setting, with a moderate noise level. Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events. Professional development is both encouraged and supported.
