Job Description:

PURPOSE:The Controller is responsible for supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in ensuring the effective operation of the accounting and financial reporting functions by performing or supervising various accounting duties. Those duties include but are not limited to supervising and directing the daily accounting operations and providing operations and financial related reporting to senior management and the Board of Directors. The employee also assists the CFO in various projects, aides in internal and external audits, and trouble shoots department related issues. Performance of the duties requires excellent organization, management, analytical and reporting skills. The Controller must be self-motivated, highly productive, and have the ability to work independently and solve problems.

  • Supervises the daily operations and functions of the Finance Department to include accounts payable and funds management, ensuring effective and efficient use of time and resources.
  • Oversees and manages financial controls functions to meet established requirements in order to provide optimum profitability for the Bank.
  • Coach, train and develop members of the accounting team. Evaluates job performance, assists individuals with professional development and recommends personnel actions.
  • Develop, maintain and control accurate and timely reporting systems in conformance with internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in asset liability management modeling and reporting.
  • Compares general ledger accounts for significant variances prior to month-end closing; adjusts accordingly and proceeds with closing process.
  • Reviews and analyzes all reconciliations of general ledgers, conducting investigative research on discrepancies as appropriate.
  • Gathers relative financial data and oversees the timely preparation of periodic regulatory reports for the Bank such as the Call Report and similar reports, as submitted to Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Reserve Bank and other applicable departments or agencies.
  • Delegates responsibilities to subordinates, provides for related training, evaluates individual performance and implements approved Personnel actions.
  • Researches and develops procedural changes and work methods to improve departmental productivity.
  • Coordinates financial activities with other bank functions.
  • Provide department and branch profitability analyses.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains personal job knowledge and management skill at a level needed to meet requirements of the position.
    • Previous working experience as a Controller required - minimum of 5 years
    • Public Accounting experience preferred.
    • Bachelor's Degree required, Advanced degree in Accounting preferred.
    • CPA required.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Advanced in Microsoft Excel including the use of complex formulas.
    • Detailed knowledge of Asset / Liability Management.
    • Thorough knowledge of FASB and GAAP Accounting and procedures.
    • Experience with Secondary Market Accounting including Mandatory commitment a plus.
    • Experience with creating financial statements.
    • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process.
    • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
      • Standard 40 -hour work week expected, though position requires early arrival, late departure, and/or Saturday / Sunday hours during the standard month end, quarter end and year end accounting cycles.
      • Remote working environment during pandemic but will resume office environment in the near term.
      • Frequent distractions include overhearing coworker conversations, employees working through the area and similar interruptions.
