Job DetailsJob LocationFall River Base - Fall River, MAGeneral Duties & Specific Job Duties:BASIC FUNCTIONS:The basic function of the Billing Clerk is to verify eligibility, submit electronic claims, and appeal claims as necessary, in a timely manner.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:The Billing Clerk reports directly to the Billing Manager.RESPONSIBILITY:The primary functional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Speak with callers in a professional and courteous manner.Follow policies and procedures put forth by Alert Ambulance.Document all patient contact correctly and immediately.Follow all HIPAA regulations.Develop a rapport with personnel at insurance agencies and facilities.Understand Alert guidelines for proper internet and phone use.Employees present themselves in a professional manner during working hours.Must be a team player and perform all duties for the benefit of the company.Demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn including attending seminars and lectures.Must be cross trained in order to provide coverage for other positions, as necessary.Participate in any and all meetings.Receive calls from patients and assist them at the time of the call.Process payments electronically.Respect others as well as properties of others and the company.SPECIFIC DUTIES:The duties of the Billing Clerk include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:Place outgoing phone calls and receive incoming phone calls regarding insurance claims and outstanding balances.Follow company policies when handling cash flow.Update all necessary software with any information provided.Learn and utilize Zoll software.Follow predefined payment schedules and batching schedules.Forward possible write off and problematic accounts to supervisor.Follow credit card processing policy.Assist with other assigned duties, as necessary.Provide supervisor with weekly reports concerning accounts, activities, and general updates.Forward any problematic companies to appropriate supervisor.Utilize many avenues of investigation, gather the necessary information to resolve claims.The Billing Clerk is responsible for all Medicare, Medicaid, Medicaid products, and hospice payors.MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE:The measurement of performance will include:The ability exhibited to strictly enforce HIPAA regulations.The ability exhibited to solve day-to-day problems.The ability to work as a team player.The willingness exhibited to "pitch-in" and assist all other office personnel. Have a "whatever it takes to get the job done" attitude.The timeliness and accuracy of the completion of all tasks assigned to you.The perceived degree of satisfaction of the Billing Manager.Ask the necessary questions and ask for help when needed.QualificationsThe requirements to maintain employment will include:High school diploma / GEDAccounting experience.MA and RI insurances coverage and eligibility knowledge.Must be an independent worker as well as a team player.Must have excellent phone skills including using appropriate collection tactics.Must be familiar with computer software including MS Word and Excel.Must have excellent organizational skills and time management.Must have a general understanding of ambulance billing.Must have knowledge of ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding, HCPC, Modifiers.Must have knowledge of insurance coverage, eligibility, benefits, and EOBs.CPC certified a plus.Bilingual a plus.
