The R&D Packaging Engineer is responsible for packaging
technology initiatives including but not limited to the assessment
and testing of new packaging, improvements to existing packaging,
and touchpoints throughout the development cycle, production,
pack-out, and distribution processes. They will also participate in
the research and sourcing of packaging related to food products
including elements of sustainability, food safety & quality,
customer and consumer preferences, and other factors. Essential
Duties:Organize and execute research and testing to drive packaging
innovation.Develop and evolve robust testing methods by outlining
scope, methodology and success criteria for multiple packaging
types including but not limited to paperboard, corrugate, seal
film, and rigid & flexible plastics. Coordinate and conduct
packaging tests at multiple facilities, document key metrics,
communicate results, and provide recommendations based on testing
outcomes.Maintain records for historical data around ideation,
testing, and development of packaging to comply with safety
certifications, provide feedback to various teams, reduce
duplication of efforts, etc.Contribute to continuous improvement
efforts related to packaging and, in some cases, additional facets
of production, development, and supply chain.Collaborate on
improved efficiencies, cost & waste reduction, and other
optimization projects.Act as a consultant for equipment purchases
and moves from a packaging and R&D standpoint.Lead
communication with packaging vendors and internal sourcing teams to
acquire samples for site acceptance tests, relocation of equipment,
proof of concept testing, and other initiatives.Assist Product Care
Team with packaging-related consumer complaints and/or
inquiries.Participate in the Sustainability Committee by driving
packaging efforts related to Blount s sustainability goals.Stay
updated on new and evolving packaging technology with a focus on
bringing Blount to the forefront of trends.Organize vendor visits
or virtual presentations for trends, capabilities, testing, and
other connect points with Blount teams.Collaborate with
co-manufacturer partners to offer expertise and ensure Blount s
standards are met for packaging based on process, product type,
distribution methods, shelf-life targets, etc.Assist indirect
purchasing in evaluating and equipping facilities with responsible
solutions for packaging and supplies, as needed.Some travel
required between Blount facilities, to packaging vendor s
facilities, industry expos, on-site courses, and training,
etc.Education and/or Experience Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from
four-year college or university3-5 years of R&D experience in
packaging, food production, or food technology; or equivalent
combination of education and experience.Working knowledge of
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint.Working knowledge of
MatLab R or similar statistical software.Our Total Compensation
